Guató Barra do São Lourenço is an Indigenous community belonging to the Guató people, located on the banks of the Paraguaí River in the middle of the Pantanal, one of the world's largest freshwater wetland ecosystems. This dynamic landscape is prone to seasonal flooding; however, members of the community are custodians of traditional knowledge which  contributes to their resilience within the landscape. This includes the construction techniques for landfills, anthropic structures formed by layers of sediment, mud, and shells that can reach four meters in height and serve as a refuge for the community during floods.
